What is Rephresh?

Rephresh - Non hormonal topical treatment for Atrophic vaginitis including symptoms of dry vagina at the menopause and painful sex.

What is atrophic vaginitis?

Atrophy is the partial or complete wasting away of body tissue and what is vaginitis? Vaginitis is inflammation of the vagina.

After the menopause, as a result of vaginal atrophy due to loss of estrogen, vaginal dryness and discomfort are more likely to become a problem for you. Local infection, atrophic vaginitis, becomes more common now that there is less protective lactic acid and this may result in inflammation causing soreness and discharge.

The peri menopause symptoms associated with atrophic vaginitis are:-

Genital  dryness, itching, burning, dyspareunia - painful sex, Vulvar pruritus (irritation), malodorous discharge, urinary Frequency and pain with passing water and incontinence.

These atrophic vaginitis symptoms may occur as pre menopause symptoms although they are more typically seen in post menopausal women.

How can atrophic vaginitis - dry vagina at menopause - painful sex - be treated?

Although topical oestrogen (creams and pessaries) are commonly used in postmenopausal women to improve the quality of the vaginal epithelium in atrophic vaginitis some women prefer to avoid any hormone treatment. Restoring vaginal pH  (mild acidity) may provide some relief from symptoms. Rephresh can provide symptomatic relief. You should always seek medical advice before commencing over the counter preparations for any of the above symptoms.

Restoration of vaginal ph - Rephresh

RepHresh is an over-the-counter vaginal gel clinically proven to maintain healthy vaginal pH. It’s colorless, odourless and long-lastingâ€"just one application lasts for three full days. It’s safe to use long-term and during pregnancy.

How does RepHresh work?

This vaginal gel is made of two polymers, polycarbophil and carbomer. Polycarbophil is an acidic molecule that adheres to the vaginal epithelial cells until they turnover (3-5 days). This restores the vaginal pH to its optimum balance of 4.5 and helps to maintain good vaginal health. A balanced pH also keeps other bacteria from overpopulating. RepHresh contains no antimicrobial agents, yet by eliminating a supportive environment for bacterial growth, RepHresh also eliminates odour for up to three full days.

RepHresh will not alter condom effectiveness.

Unlike some lubricants, RepHresh’s patented formula will not interfere with sperm motility.

Some women may report a discharge after initial use caused by the elimination of dry vaginal cells. Your body naturally sheds dry vaginal tissue that has built up over time.

RepHresh is an over-the-counter product.

An applicator is inserted into the vagina just like a tampon. After pressing the thick end of the applicator, a small amount of clear gel enters the vagina.

RepHresh should be used once every three days for best results or use RepHresh during the times you are most susceptible to higher pH levels, such as after your period, after unprotected sex or during pregnancy.

You can use RepHresh anytime. You should use it at whatever time you feel most comfortable.

RepHresh can reduce discomfort after intercourse. Also, because the pH level of sperm is so high, it can cause your vaginal pH to become unbalanced.
