Invariably only whilst it is taken. Many patients believe that there will be a treatment that will be taken once and will cure their problems indefinitely. Unfortunately, hormone treatments do not work like that. The pill, for example, provides contraception only if taken correctly. If one pill is missed or taken more than 12 hours late pregnancy could occur. If periods are not occurring (amenorrhoeaamenorrhoea), there are a variety of hormones that could be administered but when the treatment is discontinued, the amenorrhoea is likely to return.
